Special Issue Proposal
Proposal guidelines for Guest Editors and scholars interested in developing a focused Special Issue within the scope of the Journal of NeuroPhilosophy.
The Journal of NeuroPhilosophy (JNφphi) welcomes proposals for Special Issues addressing significant, emerging, or underexplored questions at the intersection of neuroscience, philosophy, cognitive science, consciousness studies, and related interdisciplinary fields.
Special Issues are intended to bring together original, rigorous, and thematically coherent scholarly contributions that advance theoretical understanding, stimulate interdisciplinary dialogue, and address important developments within the field.
Proposals may focus on established areas of research, emerging paradigms, methodological developments, or rapidly evolving interdisciplinary questions that align with the journal's aims and scope.
Each proposal is evaluated for its academic significance, originality, interdisciplinary relevance, coherence, and potential contribution to the international research community. A successful Special Issue should provide a focused scholarly framework rather than simply a collection of papers on a broad subject.

1. Special Issue Information
Please provide a concise, distinctive, and academically informative title that clearly reflects the central theme of the proposed Special Issue.
Date format: MM/DD/YYYY
A Special Issue is normally open for manuscript submissions for approximately 6–12 months. The proposed timeline may be discussed and adjusted in consultation with the Editorial Office.
2. Special Issue Description
Please provide a 150–400 word scholarly overview of the proposed Special Issue.
The description should clearly explain:
- the central research question or theme;
- the scientific and/or philosophical significance of the topic;
- the current state of research and relevant developments;
- the specific objectives of the Special Issue;
- the key questions, debates, or problems to be addressed;
- the anticipated contribution to neuroscience, philosophy, neurophilosophy, or related interdisciplinary fields; and
- the types of manuscripts or contributions expected.
3. Keywords
Please provide at least six keywords that accurately represent the principal themes, concepts, and research areas of the proposed Special Issue.

The CV should include, where applicable:
- current academic or professional position;
- institutional affiliation;
- principal research interests;
- relevant editorial or academic service;
- previous experience organizing Special Issues, conferences, workshops, or research projects; and
- at least three peer-reviewed publications directly relevant to the proposed Special Issue.

The preliminary list is non-binding and does not constitute an invitation or guarantee of publication. All submitted manuscripts will undergo the journal's standard editorial and peer-review procedures.

The final publication schedule will be determined in consultation with the Editorial Office and may be adjusted according to the progress of peer review and production.
11. Editorial and Ethical Responsibilities
The Lead Guest Editor is expected to work in close collaboration with the Editorial Office and to uphold the journal's standards of scholarly integrity, editorial independence, transparency, and publication ethics.
Guest Editors are expected to:
- maintain academic and editorial impartiality;
- avoid conflicts of interest;
- ensure that manuscripts are evaluated according to scholarly merit;
- maintain confidentiality throughout the editorial and peer-review process;
- comply with the journal's publication ethics and peer-review policies;
- ensure that all contributors understand that submission does not guarantee acceptance or publication; and
- work with the Editorial Office to ensure that the Special Issue meets the journal's standards for quality and integrity.
All manuscripts submitted to a Special Issue remain subject to the same editorial standards and peer-review requirements as regular submissions to JNφphi.
Guest Editors do not have the authority to guarantee acceptance, bypass peer review, or make publication decisions solely on the basis of invitation.
12. Submission and Editorial Evaluation
Completed Special Issue proposals should be submitted electronically to:
The Editorial Office will assess each proposal on the basis of its:
- relevance to the journal's aims and scope;
- originality and scholarly significance;
- intellectual and interdisciplinary coherence;
- timeliness and potential impact;
- qualifications and expertise of the proposed Guest Editor(s);
- feasibility of the proposed editorial and publication plan; and
- potential to attract high-quality international contributions.
The journal may request additional information or modifications before a proposal is formally approved.
Submission of a proposal does not constitute acceptance of the proposed Special Issue.
