Conflict of Interest

The Journal of NeuroPhilosophy (JNφphi) requires all authors, reviewers, editors, and other individuals involved in the publication process to disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that could influence, or could reasonably be perceived to influence, the objectivity, integrity, or interpretation of scholarly work.

A conflict of interest may arise from financial, professional, personal, academic, institutional, or other relationships or affiliations. Authors should disclose any relevant interests, including, but not limited to:

  • employment or institutional affiliations;

  • research grants or other sources of funding;

  • consultancies and advisory relationships;

  • honoraria or other payments;

  • ownership of stocks, shares, or stock options;

  • patents filed, granted, or pending;

  • royalties or licensing arrangements;

  • expert testimony;

  • commercial relationships involving products, technologies, or services discussed in the manuscript; and

  • personal or professional relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the work.

All sources of financial support for the research should be clearly acknowledged. Authors should also disclose relevant institutional or corporate affiliations on the title page or in the designated funding and conflict-of-interest statement.

The absence of a conflict of interest should also be explicitly stated when applicable.

Editorial and Peer-Review Conflicts of Interest

Editors and reviewers must disclose any circumstances that could compromise their impartiality in evaluating a manuscript. Individuals with a relevant conflict of interest should not participate in the peer-review process or in editorial decisions concerning the manuscript.

Editors and reviewers should recuse themselves when they have a direct financial, professional, personal, or academic interest in the manuscript or its authors, or when another circumstance could reasonably raise concerns about impartiality.

Members of the editorial team must not use confidential information obtained through the editorial or peer-review process for personal, professional, academic, or financial benefit.

Confidentiality

All individuals involved in the editorial and peer-review process are required to maintain the confidentiality of unpublished manuscripts and related information. Confidential information obtained through editorial or peer-review activities must not be used to advance the individual's own interests or the interests of others.

Originality and Prior Publication

Submission of a manuscript to JNφphi implies that the work, or its essential substance, has not been published previously and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, unless the journal has explicitly agreed to an exception.

Authors are responsible for disclosing any substantially related publications, manuscripts, conference papers, preprints, or other publicly available versions that may overlap with the submitted work.

Author Conflict-of-Interest Declaration

Authors may use the following statement when no relevant conflict of interest exists:

“The authors declare that they have no known financial, professional, personal, or institutional conflicts of interest that could have influenced the work reported in this manuscript.”

When a conflict exists, authors should provide a clear description of the relevant relationship or interest.

I understand that I must disclose any relevant conflict of interest and, where appropriate, recuse myself from reviewing, editing, or participating in editorial decisions concerning manuscripts in which I have a direct or competing interest.

I agree to maintain the confidentiality of information obtained through my activities with JNφphi and will not use confidential editorial or peer-review information for my own benefit or for the benefit of any other individual or organization.
